16. THE QUESTION WAS: According to the Bible, one who thinks he is standing secure, should do what?

a. have confidence he will not fall

b. take care not to fall

THE ANSWER IS….B…..take care not to fall

1 Cor 10:11-12 These things happened to them as an example, and they have been written down as a warning to us, upon whom the end of the ages has come. Therefore, whoever thinks he is standing secure should take care not to fall.

ASSURANCE OF PERSEVERING in GRACE UNTIL THE VERY END?

Or is it possible to fall and be disqualified?

1 Cor 9:27: “No, I drive my body and train it, for fear that, after having preached to others, I myself should be disqualified.”

Mt 24:13  “But the one who perseveres to the end will be saved.”

Rom 11:22: “See, then, the kindness and severity of God: severity toward those who fell, but God’s kindness to you, provided you remain in his kindness, otherwise you too will be cut off.”

1 Cor 10:11-12 “These things happened to them as an example, and they have been written down as a warning to us, upon whom the end of the ages has come. Therefore, whoever thinks he is standing secure should take care not to fall.”

Gal 5:4 “You are separated from Christ, you who are trying to be justified by the law; you have fallen from grace.”

2 Tim 2: 11-13 “If we have died with him, we shall also live with him; if we persevere we shall also reign with him.”

Heb 6:4-6: “For it is impossible in the case of those who have once been enlightened and tasted the heavenly gift and shared in the holy Spirit and tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, and then have fallen away, to bring them to repentance again, since they are recrucifying the son of god for themselves and holding him up to contempt.”

Heb 10:26-27: “If we sin deliberately after receiving knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains sacrifice for sins but a fearful prospect of judgment and a flaming fire that is going to consume the adversaries.”

1 Jn 5:16-17: “If any one see his brother sinning a sin not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life, for those that do not sin unto death. There is a sin to death: I do not say of that that he should make a request. Every unrighteousness is sin; and there is a sin not to death.”

2 Pet 2:20-21 “For if after having escaped the pollutoins of the world through [the] knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, again entangled, they are subdued by these, their last state is worse than the first. For it were better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known [it] to turn back from the holy commandment delivered to them.

BAPTISM SAVES/FORGIVES SINS….BAPTISM NECESSARY FOR SALVATION

Jn 3:5, 22  “Amen, amen I say to you, no one can enter the kingdom of God without being born of water and Spirit.” (A few verses later, in John 3:22, apostles begin baptizing)

Tit 3:5 “not because of any righteous deeds we had done but because of his mercy, he saved us through the bath of rebirth and renewal by the holy Spirit.”

Acts 2:37-38 Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized, everyone one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”

Acts 22:16  “Now why delay? Get up and have yourself baptized and your sins washed away, calling upon his name.’

1 Cor 6:11 “That is what some of you used to be; but now you have had yourselves washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.”

Rom 6:4  “We were indeed buried with him through baptism into death, so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might live in newness of life.”

1 Pet 3:21 “This prefigured Baptism, which saves you now.” (Noah saved thru water)

Mark 16:16: “He that believes and is baptised shall be saved.”

JUDGED ACCORDING TO DEEDS

Rom 2:5-8 “By your stubbornness and impenitent heart, you are storing up wrath for yourself for the day of wrath and revelation of the just judgment of God, who will repay everyone according to his works: eternal life to those who seek glory, honor and immortatility through perseverance in good works, but wrath and fury to those who selfishly disobey the truth and obey wickedness.”

John 5:28-29: “Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.” (John 5:28, 29)

2 Cor 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive recompense, according to what he did in the body, whether good or evil.”

2 Cor 11:15 “Their end will correspond to their deeds.”

1 Pet 1:17 “Now if you invoke as Father him who judges impartially according to each one’s works, conduct yourselves with reverence during the time of your sojourning…”

Rev. 20:12-13 “I saw the dead, the great and the lowly, standing before the throne, and scrolls were opened. Then another scroll was opened, the book of life. The dead were judged according to their deeds, by what was written in the scrolls.”

Col 3:24-25  “Whatever you do, do from the heart, as for the Lord and not for others, knowing that you will receive from the Lord the due payment of the inheritance; be slaves of the Lord Christ. For the wrongdoer will receive recompense for the wrong he committed, and there is no partiality.”

Gal 6:7-10 “For whatever a man shall sow, that also shall he reap. For he that sows to his own flesh, shall reap corruption from the flesh; but he that sows to the Spirit, from the Spirit shall reap eternal life.” (WORKS HAVE MERIT)

GOOD WORKS

Mt 7:21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven.”

Mt 19:16-17 “Now someone approached him and said, “Teacher, what good must I do to gain eternal life?” He answered him, “Why do you ask me about he good? There is only One who is good. If you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments.”

Jn 14:21 “Whoever has my commandments and observes them is the one who loves me.”

Rom 2:2-8  “We know that the judgment of God on those who do such things is true. Do you suppose, then, you who judge those who engage in such things and yet do them yourself, that you will escape the judgment of God? Or do you hold his esteem, unaware that the kindness of God would lead you to repentance? By your stubbornness and impenitent heart, you are storing up wrath for yourself for the day of wrath and revelation of the just judgment of God, who will repay everyone according to his works: eternal life to those who seek glory, honor, and immortality through perseverance in good works, but wrath and fury to those who selfishly disobey the truth and obey wickedness.”

Gal 5:4-6 “You are separated from Christ, you who are trying to be justified by works; you have fallen from grace. For through the Spirit, by faith, we await the hope of righteousness. For in Jesus Christ, neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything, but only faith working through love.”

Eph 2:8-10 “For grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not from you; it is the gift of God; it is not from works so no one may baost. For we are his handiwork, created in Jesus Christ for the good works that God has prepared in advance, that we should live in them.”

Phil 2:12-13  “work out your own salvation in fear and trembling”

James 2:14-24 “A man is justified by works, and not by faith alone.”
