According to
the Bible, what is the pillar and foundation of truth?
a.
The Church
b.
The Bible
THE
ANSWER IS
.. A
the CHURCH is referred to as the pillar and foundation of
truth (1 Tim 3:15)
But
if I should be delayed, you should know how to behave in the household of God,
which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of truth. (1
Tim 3:15)
Catholics
believe that only through the Catholic Church do we have an assurance of the
truthful interpretation of the Bible. For Jesus told his apostles the Holy
Spirit would guide them into all truth.(Jn 16:13) As Catholics, our Church is led by direct successors of the
apostles in an unbroken line. Every one of our bishops across the globe can
trace his authority back to an apostle through the laying on of hands.
(Biblical examples of transference of apostolic office include Acts 1:20; 6:6;
13:3; 8:18; 9:17; 1 Tim. 4:14; 5:22; 2 Tim. 1:6).
Evangelical
leaders, on the other hand, do not have an assurance they are interpreting the
Bible correctly, and freely admit that they or their church elders may be
holding to a mistaken teaching. The leaders of Protestant churches, no matter
how brilliant, sincere or faith-filled, cannot trace their office (or laying on
of the hands) or their power to any of the men commissioned by Jesus.
Jesus
entrusted his teaching into the hands of his Church, which he promised would be
with us forever. That Church, which is the Bride of Christ, has been visible to
Christians for 2,000 years. Its members may sin, but the graces poured out on
us through the sacraments are straight from Christ. Its doctrines are the
teachings of Christ.
