ANSWER: ARAMAIC

The native language of Jesus was Aramaic. The language of trade was Greek.

The Chaldean Church in the Middle East, which uses Aramaic as its mother tongue, is in union with the pope. It is part of the Catholic Church.

The Catholic Church’s largest rite is the Roman rite (Latin), but Eastern churches who use the Chaldean rite, the Maronite rite, the Byzantine Rite, the Alexandrian rite, the Syriac Rite or the Armenian Rite are all part of the Catholic Church.

The official name of our church has always been the Catholic Church. To put the name “Roman” before it can sometimes obscure the fact that our Church is much more encompassing that just the Roman rite.
